  14. Fuji Rock Day 3

Day 3 started off sunny and damn hot!! First up today would be the much hyped, part Baltimore, part New York, part Brisbane, 3 piece ,The Death Set. Again, as with day 2, we started with a nice healthy dose of punk rock. But The Death Set can’t be pigeon holed as punk, actually they can’t be pigeon holed as anything. Like most of the music that has been coming out of Baltimore at the moment, they have a sound of their own. The Death Set play a mix of danceable punk, with hip hop interludes between songs and a bit of random beeps and blips thrown in for good measure. To say I was blown away would be an understatement as I couldn’t help but dance, mosh and pull out my random (and quite possibly embarrassing) hip hop moves throughout their tremendous set. The Japanese crowd ate it up and when the singer jumped into the crowd he was just about mauled by their rabid fans.

  15. Fuji Rock Festival Day 2

Having met some cool Japanese people on our journey to get food and no real plan of who to see first, we decided to join our new friends in checking out some local bands. First up on the White Stage, were a brilliant, 3 piece, Japanese punk rock band “Rin to Shite Shigure”. With only a female bass player/vocalist, male guitarist/vocalist and a male drummer they managed to create a huge “wall of sound” reminiscent of bands like Mars Volta and Sonic Youth. At the early hour of 11:30 they had the crowd jumping around like monkeys (way to much energy for us) and were a surprise highlight of the festival.

  16. Fuji Rock Festival 08 Day 1

The first day of Fuji Rock 08 was shaping up to be a corker. Unfortunately we made a slight miss judgement on how long it would take to get to FRF08 from Tokyo. This meant that we missed 3 acts we were hanging to see, Aussie lads The Midnight Juggernauts, 90’s rockers The Presidents of the U.S.A and funkster Jamie Lidell. We scrambled to set up our tents on slight hill (the flattest area we could find) and rushed to catch what was left of Kate Nash’s set.
