Sitar legend Ravi Shankar and his daughter Anoushka are heading to Australia for two headline shows only; one in Melbourne and one in Sydney.
The shows will happen in March, 2010, just weeks before his 90th birthday and follow a very special performance at Adelaide's world music festival, WOMADelaide.Ravi Shankar swept to international fame when he met the Beatles during their trip to India. In 1970 he suggested to George Harrison that he put together an all star concert to raise money for what was then East Pakistan.
His association with The Beatles has helped popularise Indian music in the west and his influence can be felt in every sitar-infused western pop song since then such as tracks by Cornershop and Reverend and the Makers.
