MGMT have finally made a video for their ten month old single ‘Kids’ and the star of the clip is none other than Joanna Newsom.
The video shows Newsom taking on a trashy bad-mom persona reminiscent of those trashy articles on Britney Spears’ mothering abilities.The kid is being taken around by Newsom through a barrage of monsters that supposedly only he can see. My personal favourite is the one with the phallus (I’m not sure if it’s a turd, a hot dog or something else entirely...) sticking out of his eye.
It’s not all indie stars and monsters though, there is also some bizarre animation and a somewhat disturbing shot of the band performing in the middle of the forest.
On a posting on the band’s official website, they say this is the first song they ever wrote back in February 2003, and the idea for the video has been around for a year.
