Tom Waits fans will soon to be able to visit the places where his classic songs were inspired.
‘Crawling Down Cahuenga: Tom Waits’ Los Angeles’ is a bus tour of Waits haunts. It offers to take you “through Tom’s epic misdeeds and shenanigans from the Trashing of the Troubadour to epic nights at the Tropicana”.Waits was more near San Diego but lived most of his life in Los Angeles.
Waits moved to LA in 1972 after signing with David Geffen’s Asylum Records. He first lived in LA at the Tropicana where he sawed off the drainpipe so his piano would fit.
You’ll visit The Nickel (Skid Row), his favourite strip clubs, midnight diners, recording studios, night clubs, record labels and film studios and finish up with a snack at Clifton’s cafeteria.
David Smay and Kim Cooper, authors of books on Tom Waits and Neutral Milk Hotel, host the tour.
