Rock stars come out of the woodwork to dedicate profits from their October 21 shows to charities in Darfur.
Emo dating site myspace has gained a more philanthropic edge by showcasing a series of charity shows dubbed Rock For Darfur. A group of bands have dedicated their October 21 shows to support the cause, including The Fray, TV On The Radio, +44, Secret Machines, Atreyu, Slightly Stoopid, Alice In Chains, Ziggy Marley, Teddy Geiger, Insane Clown Posse, Jars Of Clay, Jamie Cullum and more.The shows will benefit the people of Darfur, in the western region of Sudan. Over the last three years, inter-tribal warfare has killed over 400,000 and left 2.6 million people living in refugee camps. According to the www.myspace.com/rockfordarfur, the humanitarian crisis escalates daily. A portion of ticket prices for the shows will go to Oxfam's Sudan Crisis Relief and Rehabilitation Fund.
The myspace page has already accumulated over 45,000 "friends", and offers links to a Darfur Dialogue Tool Kit as well as a trailer for the documentary 'The Devil Came On Horseback' and a snippet of George Clooney filming in Sudan and Chad. More concerts are to be included.
