Deep down in the artist announcement for Stagecoach 2009 was a hidden surprise. Poco will reform for the festival with Ritchie Furay and Jim Messina.
The Poco line-up will include original members Richie Furay, Rusty Young and Jim Messina as well as Paul Cotton who joined in 1970, Jack Sundrud (1985) and George Lawrence (1999).Jim Messina hasn’t been a member of Poco since 1991 and Richie Furay was last in the line-up in 1990.
Furay and Messina were the founding members of Poco, forming the band in 1968. Furay had come out of Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills and Neil Young. Messina started out in Poco but later formed Loggins and Messina with Kenny Loggins.
Poco’s best known song would be 1976’s ‘Rose of Cimarron’. Another album worth checking out was ‘Indian Summer’ from 1977 which featured the Eagles Timothy B. Schmit before he joined the Eagles. The most recent studio album was ‘Running Horse’ featuring Cotton, Young, Grantham and Sundrud.
The California Stagecoach Festival is on April 25 and 26 in Indio, Ca.
The festival will also feature Kid Rock, Reba, Brad Paisley and Kenny Chesney.
