Neil Diamond will be honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year at a gala dinner in Los Angeles on February 6.
MusiCares and the Recording Academy will award the honor to Diamond just two days before the 2009 Grammy Awards.The award is given to artists for their exceptional artistic achievement and their charity work.
Diamond donated 100% of his merch sales from shows in Dallas, Houston and Oklahoma to the hurricane relief efforts in Texas.
His recording achievements include sales of more than 125 million records, 26 Top 40 hits and thousands of sold-out shows world-wide.
Surprisingly, Neil Diamond has only ever won one Grammy Award although he has been nominated 12 times.
The 2009 Grammy Awards will be held on February 8 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
