The two albums by Bruce Campbell aka Jobriath will be re-released on September 30.
Jobriath is credited as the first openly gay glam-rock star.He released ‘Jobriath’ in 1973 and then ‘Creatures of the Street’ in 1974 but then faded as fast as he came into the world. Jobriath spent the next 10 years playing in diners before he died of AIDS in 1983.
Jobriath signed to Elektra Records for the huge sum at the time of $500,000. Posters of his naked torso adorned magazines, bus shelters and even Times Square.
While his first album created a small splash in the industry, his second album ‘Creatures of the Street’ was all but ignored.
Regardless, Jobriath was influential and made an impact on artists like David Bowie, Morrissey, the Pet Shop Boys and Gary Numan.
Both albums will be re-issued by Collector’s Choice Music.
