The return of Patti Smith to Australian shores has been announced as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival.
Smith’s tour is hot on the heels of a new film about her life by Stephen Serbing called ‘Dream of Life’.The festival will take place in Melbourne from the 9th - 25th of October and will also feature performances from renowned composer Philip Glass who’s performance ‘Book of Longing’ was inspired by the poetry of Leonard Cohen, the world premiere of ‘Hidden Republic’, which is a collaboration between the Black Arm Band and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra amongst many more artists from hugely diverse genres and backgrounds.
Patti Smith, Philip Glass and Goran Bregovic will all also take place at the Sydney Opera House.
Being an arts festival, of course there will also be a theatre component, as well as a sculpture and contemporary art compoent, such as Chris Doyle’s ‘Ecstatic City’, which will convert St. Kilda Road’s NGV International building into a “veritable moving sculpture of light”.
The Melbourne International Arts Festival will take place in Melbourne, Australia from the 9th - 25th of October.
