Four fine singers join forces for classic jazz standards at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
Last night the Melbourne International Jazz Festival announced a fantastic, eclectic and rather youth-focussed program, including four new acts for their ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ opener.
Tex Perkins, Eddie Perfect, Kimbra and Paris Wells will perform jazz standards ] backed by the Sam Keevers Trio, echoing last year’s ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’.
Lior, Whitley, Clare Bowditch and Megan Washington performed for that one, and this year’s version is sure to be a treat.
It showcases the underrated voice of Perkins (so well displayed during his Man In Black run), comic cabaret star Perfect, the monumental pipes of Paris Wells, and Kiwi sensation Kimbra (who began in jazz before moving to more contemporary sounds).
‘Fly Me To The Moon’ will feature songs from Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and many more jazz greats.
It kicks off at St. Kilda’s stunning Palais Theatre on the first day of the festival, June 4.
The Melbourne International Jazz Festival runs from June 4 to June 13.
