Tom Chaplin, frontman for UK soft indie rockers Keane, is in rehab to recover from his predilection for booze and cocaine.
In a bizarre series of events, it seems half of UK rock royalty are spending their summer in rehab. Just days ago, The Darkness singer Justin Hawkins joined Babyshambles/Libertines singer and hapless junkie Pete Doherty in UK rehabilitation clinic The Priory. Now Keane singer Tom Chaplin admits that last week's "exhaustion" was exactly what everyone assumes when a musician says they're "exhausted": a drug habit.Chaplin admitted himself into The Priory for a week before taking a break to perform the V Festival. He has now returned to the clinic. He said on their site, "I've been having to deal with an increasing problem with drink and drugs, and the time has come to get the professional help I need to sort myself out."
The band will break from touring for the rest of August and have postponed their forthcoming September tour of the US and Canada. Here's hoping he can get better. Or at least get together with his rock star buddies and come out with an interesting side project.
