Prince is joining the industry sentiment in calling YouTube "a haven for copyright infringement".
The singer has announced he will join a consortium that plans to sue the online video site for the illegal distribution of his music. In a statement, Prince said that YouTube has no problem filtering porn but chooses not to filter unauthorized music material.
He is calling for artists to "reclaim their art".
In the last couple of weeks, more than 2000 Prince videos have been removed from YouTube.
A spokesperson for YouTube told Billboard magazine that they are developing state-of-the-art tools to help manage content for copyright holders. That statement makes as much sense as a murderer saying it is alright to shoot someone because people could have been wearing a bullet-proof vest.
