The kings of indie rock, R.E.M., have previewed new songs during their five night stint in Dublin, Ireland, where they have been recorded their new album.
Fans looking to hear a greatest hits set may well have been rather disappointed. The band's entire set was made up of new songs or lesser known old tracks. The new songs are more "rock" sounding especially evident in 'Living Well Is The Best Revenge', perhaps inspired by their recent IRS years compilation, which saw their early indie rock recordings re-released.
Their early indie rock sound is especially noticeable in 'Horse To Water', where front man Michael Stipe's vocals almost sound like he's revisiting that quickly spoken style from their early hit 'It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)'.
On the other side of the coin, 'Until The Day Is Done' almost sounds like Led Zeppelin in their psychedelic folk period.
Older tracks included 'Electrolite', 'Maps and Legends', 'I'm Gonna DJ' and 'These Days'.
