R.E.M. should score a Top 5 debut in the USA next week with their new album ‘Collapse Into Now’.
Hitsdailydouble.com predicts the album will sell around 45,000 units in America in the first week. On this week’s chart that would have given it a no. 5 debut position.
The last R.E.M. album ‘Accelerate’ sold almost one third of its total sales in its first week on sale. ‘Accelerate’ sold 115,458 units in week one and went on to sell 353,153 to date.
R.E.M. are not planning on touring this record which is surprising as it has a live sound which harks back to their 80s rock sound.
Peter Buck will be performing at SXSW next Wednesday March 16 with The Baseball Project, featuring Scott McCaughey, Steve Wynn and Linda Pitmon.
Michael Stipe will also be at SXSW on Wednesday to present the films from ‘Collapse Into Now’ and taking questions from the audience about the videos afterwards.
