Excitable retro-rock sensations The Basics bring back the classic variety show.
While they're busy resurrecting The Police and The Beatles, well-groomed Melbourne trio The Basics are also bringing back the idea of a variety show incorporating a full live band, multiple acts and comedians hosted at a legendary old theatre. Melbourne's Athanaeum will host the all ages 'Hey Hey It's The Basics' performance on June 30.As well as the band joined by live strings, horns and keys, they'll bring friends Spargo, Emma Heeney and The Daves, Little Red and Sydney's Tokenview. In addition to this satisfying musical line-up, The Basics have booked some of Melbourne's hottest, sharpest comedians to entertain. Catch Melbourne Comedy Fest sensations Lawrence Leung and Andrew McClelland as well as stand-up oddball Oliver Clark.
The event will also be filmed on 16mm, hopefully for a future release. It'll be a truly unique way to experience The Basics and friends, and the only place you'll here them play their entire album from stand to finish. But if you can't make it, catch them at Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney and other Melbourne shows with Japan's The Bawdies through June.
