Neo-roots king Ben Harper has spoken about his next album, 'Lifeline'.
Harper hustled his touring band The Innocent Criminals into a Paris studio to record his seventh album. Harper spoke to Billboard about the eleven-song album, which was recorded in just a week on all-analogue equipment. He said that it makes perfect sense to record straight off a tour. "You've got all your best equipment and your musical abilities are never as sharp or as heightened as when you've been consistently on the road."
The comment seems redundant considering Harper virtually lives on the road. After completing yet another set of Australian dates in early April, Harper has already played a selection of Californian shows and is planning May performances with ex-Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello in his guise as The Nightwatchman. Harper is also confirmed for Chicago's Lollapalooza Festival on August 3 and Maryland's Virgin Festival date the next day.
The forthcoming follow-up to last year's US top ten double-album 'Both Sides Of The Gun' will include the tracks 'Fight Outta You', 'Say You Will', 'Put It on Me', 'Fool for a Lonesome Train' and 'Having Wings'. 'Lifeline' will be released on Virgin on August 28.
