Steve Van Zandt has set in motion a Kickstarter campaign that will reunite The Rascals for the first time in over forty years.
Best known for his E Street band duties with The Boss, Steve Van Zandt has been a massive fan and supporter of 60's underground music as evidenced in his popular radio program Little Stevens Underground Garage.
Rolling Stone has reported that the reunion shows to be billed "Once Upon A Dream" scheduled for December 13th, 14th and 15th will be reinforced by narration, pre-filmed scenes and old footage of the band with production by Steve Van Zandt and Marc Brickman.
Van Zandt has penned some commentary about the planned shows " The show will be an uplifting inspiration for you fans that have been waiting all these years, praying for a Rascals comeback, and those of you who are younger will get a real taste of the Sixties you missed the first time around. Me and Marc have invested our time, money and blood these last few years for this idea and now we need you to bring it home," and adds, " Not one dollar that is contributed will go into anyone's pocket, or be commissioned in any way, every dollar will go into the production making it as good as it can be, as great as the Rascals deserve . . . So that's it. The Rascals are coming back . . . The production will be as big as you make it."
The Rascals were initially known as The Young Rascals and were active from 1965 to 1972. The band released a bunch of top ten singles in North America during the mid to late 60s. Number 1 hits included including"Good Lovin'" (1966), "Groovin'" (1967), and "People Got to Be Free" (1968), as well as A Beautiful Morning (#3 1968) and the lesser-known A Girl Like You. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
The shows will also feature the original lineup of Felix Cavaliere, Gene Cornish, Eddie Brigati and Dino Danelli.
