R.E.M. will head back to the studio to start work on their next studio album in coming weeks.
Lee worked with U2 on 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb', Snow Patrol's last two albums 'Final Straw' and 'Eyes Open', as well as Bloc Party's new album 'A Weekend In The City'."We are psyched to work with Jacknife Lee," guitarist Mike Mills said in a statement. "We've got a great batch of new songs, and can't wait to put them down."
"There is no model for REM," says Jacknife. "Consistently one of the Great Bands, if not the greatest. They push themselves further than most, doing every time what is the goal for any artist - explore. These new songs are some of their most exciting and visceral yet."
Lee's other recent work includes production credits for Aqualung, The Hives, The Editors and Kasabian.
R.E.M's last album was 'Around The Sun' in 2004.
