His name is Devin and was listed in NME's " 20 Acts That Will Matter in 2012" His live persona has been likened to Iggy Pop and a New York Dolls era David Johansen. He'll make your heart beat fast.
Devin started writing his first "good songs" whilst working a "terrible job" and " living in a shithole with no windows". He also happened to be single and hated New York and everyone in it. A classic recipe for great songwriting and Devin is a shining example of what it takes to get it right. Depression and misery are the best bullets to use when shooting for a "good song". In Devins own words " I’d been writing before that, but they were pretty terrible. I mean, really bad. But then I started working with these classic forms that everyone understands: rock and roll, rhythm and blues. I never knew I could pull off rock, but I wrote some songs and I could tell I didn’t suck anymore.”
Devin certainly does not suck, infact I had heart palpitations when first listening to the single "You're Mine", its the best release I've heard all year, no competition.
NME were correct in their diagnosis of Devin being something that will matter in 2012. They forgot to mention beyond 2012. Who said rock n roll was dead....pish posh.
His debut album" Romancing " will be unleashed on April 6th through Inertia in Australia.
