Britney Spears new album edges out Radiohead for the number one position in this week’s ARIA chart wrap.
The dogfight at the top was the most significant of the new entries this week, as Spears’ Femme Fatale debuted at number one on the ARIA Album Chart ahead of Radiohead’s King Of Limbs.
But it’s a bittersweet win, since King Of Limbs has been available online for over six weeks and still managed to come in second.
There were quite a few other new entries: Sum 41’s comeback album Screaming Bloody Murder appeared at 16, Within Temptation’s The Unforgiving at 27, Shane Nicholson’s Bad Machines at 29, Cavalera Conspiracy’s Blunt Force Trauma at 31, Celtic Thunder’s Take Me Home at 40 and Yellowcard’s When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes at 41.
The biggest movers were Lionel Richie, whose Definitive Collection rocketed back into the charts at 17 on the back of touring, and Aussies are finally catching up with worldwide number one Adele’s 21, which snuck up from 12 to 4.
Kanye West copped a big drop, from 24 to 43, but it’s been in the charts for 19 weeks so that’s not too shabby. Elbow also plummeted from 18 to 50, everyone who wanted to snap up their gentle Build A Rocket Boys! seemingly having already bought their copy.
Impressively, Sparkadia are holding in at number nine, only dropping one rung from last week.
And Bon Jovi and Pink’s Greatest Hits remain perennial, both still in the top twenty after five months.
