In this week’s ARIA Chart wrap, Foo Fighters shoot to number one and go instantly platinum.
No surprises here: Foo Fighters’ Wasting Light has topped the Australian album chart and sold platinum in its first week. We can expect it to stay there for a while…
It edged out Adele’s 21, which is still yet to hit number one after three months in the charts. Adele’s first album 19 also popped up at 34.
k.d. lang And The Siss Boom Bang hold onto number three and Drapht’s breakthrough number one of last week holds at number four.
Aside from Ronan Keating’s Burt Bacharach album coming in at number eight, there were some big Australian indie success stories in the debuts this week.
The Middle East’s long-awaited debut I Want That You Are Always Happy popped in at number 11 and Architecture In Helsinki’s long-gestating album Moment Bends hit number 12.
Oddly enough, the soundtrack to the glossy new action film Sucker Punch debuted at number 18 and Asking Alexandria’s Reckless And Relentless appeared at 30.
It was also a week of re-entries with two Keith Urban albums coming back into the chart at 19 and 43 due to a tour, and Good Charlotte, Katy Perry, a Crowded House Best Of and Mark Ronson all revisiting between 38 and 47.
Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now climbed from 16 to 5 on the back of a tour, and Bieber capitalised on his film with My Worlds shooting from 15 to 7 this week and the Never Say Never remixes coming up from 30 to 16.
The biggest slumps of the week were from The Strokes, Angles falling from 9 to 22, Avril Lavinge slipping from 11 to 23, Usher’s stalwart Raymond Vs Raymond dropping from 14 to 32, and electro locals Tim & Jean’s debut Like What plummeting from 12 to 44 in its second week.
