Short Stack’s bassist Andy Clemmensen has been sprung heavily plagiarising a review on Channel V’s website.
Each member of the emo-pop trio wrote an album review for Channel [V]’s VMusic website.
Soon enough, esteemed Fairfax music and film critic and author Craig Mathieson noticed that the opening line of Clemmensen’s review of Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was an almost word-for-word copy of his Age and Sydney Morning Herald review of the same album.
Posting this on music industry insider discussion boards Mess+Noise, it soon emerged that the entire review was copied from a variety of sources, including the infamous 10.0 Pitchfork review, and a significant section from Justin De La Cruz’s review on MusicOMH.
De La Cruz has already blogged about the incident, writing “Does it really take less time and effort to rip people's words from different reviews? You (or, more likely, some intern somewhere) really can't slog together 277 words for your bullshit column? Give me a fucking break, Short Stack.”
Rabid Short Stack fans have already come out to defend the band, posting comments on other reports of the incident, specifically at Defamer (who has had a notable history of inciting Short Stack’s fanbase).
Their arguments have ranged from “chillax” to “who cares” to “big shizz”.
Channel [V] has removed the review.
"apologies to any reviewers not quoted. arriving home late from a month long promo tour and having the Kanye album review due the next day, I was exhausted, so i foolishly got my friend to do it for me. was unaware that it was plagirised but I accept full responsibility and would once again like to apologize to the journalists I have offended"
