The title of the new Short Stack album ‘This Is Bat Country’ borrows from reference in the Hunter S. Thompson book ‘Fear and Loathing in LA’. Singer Shaun Diviney says he owns a signed copy of the book.
“I actually have a signed copy of the book. I do, I do. (I bought it) from a bookstore in London. It is worth a pretty penny” he tells Undercover’s Andrew Tijs. “This is a first edition signed copy with the original artwork.”
The album follows a similar theme to the images in Thompson’s book. “It is more of a reference to the social commentary associated with the book, the morals, the ideals and the American dream,” he says. “That’s the main theme throughout the book and throughout the album”.
The band used the moment to also mock the whole emo culture to the point where they even had action figures made. “There is all this gothic imagery. It plays on murder and the church and cathedrals,” he says. “We wanted to incorporate that into the artworks as well. We wanted the album to be almost like a movie so we bought out action figures with it. Its pretty much making fun of that whole genre.”
