Serge Thomann, the well known music photographer and Councillor for the City of Port Phillip has served a legal letter claiming foul play by Labor Politician and sitting member Martin Foley.
The letter sent by Aitken Partners solicitors to Foley two days before the Victorian election complains that the ALP under Foley distributed “offending material” misrepresenting Thomann’s position.
Thomann is standing on policies of Planning & Development and Climate Change that he says are defining issues in this election.
His legal letter demanded that material on Foley’s website be removed. “Labor’s serious and concerted misrepresentation of my position on these issues appears to be a sign of their desperation to cling to power,” Cr Thomann said in a media release.
“Albert Park has been a safe Labor seat for 60 years,” he continues. “We have a real chance to change this on Saturday. Independents needs a strong primary vote to combine Greens and Liberal preferences and vault over Labor.”
The Victorian state Labor Party has had a uneasy relationship with the music business in the last 12 months. Changes to licensing laws meant closure of some of Melbourne’s venues. Only after a street protest from thousands of irate music fans did the government take notice and pencil in changes but sceptics think those promises won’t mean much after the election.
Last week, Cr. Thomann had the music industry rally behind him with a funding raising concert at The Palace in Melbourne featuring Pseudo Echo, Renee Geyer, Ross Wilson, Mick Harvey, Scott Carne, Sean Kelly, the Chantoozies and more.
