Well-known St. Kilda music industry identity and photographer Serge Thomann has announced his intention to run for State Government in the upcoming Victorian election.
Thomann is currently a councilor for the City of Port Phillip and was instrumental in tidying up the dishonesty surrounding the St Kilda triangle project that threatened the entertainment district of St Kilda.
He now plans on giving the music industry a voice in State Parliament
"We need to ensure that music gets the support it deserves,” Thomann tells Undercover News. “We can do so much more for the musicians and music venues that make Melbourne so vibrant. I want to be the voice of the music industry in the Victorian Parliament."
With both sides of politics currently sucking up to the music industry after the backlash caused by the Brumby government after changing liquor licensing laws, it will be important for the music industry to have a voice in State Government after the election when politicians traditionally go back on their promises.
Thomann was behind the Unchain St Kilda action group to stop the construction of the eyesore and his actions lead to his victory in the City of Port Phillip council election.
He will run as an independent for the seat of Albert Park and give his preferences to the Greens.
