It's the most surprising news we've heard in a while - Morrissey is keen to represent the UK in the 2007 Eurovision song contest.
A BBC spokeswoman said that whilst no decision had been made, Morrissey had expressed interest in writing for the contest, which has seen disappointing performances from British representatives in recent years. A spokeswoman for the singer himself also confirmed he was in discussions. The 'miserable one' is surely one of the most incongruous Eurovision contestants imaginable, which is considered a light-hearted, kitsch-filled spectacle by most of its 100 million viewers.
Still, there are a number of hurdles in our way before we get to see Morrissey tackle the best talent from Moldova and Estonia. It's still not known if Morrissey will write or perform the tune - and even if he decides to give it a go, he would still have to be voted in by the British public in March.
