Ex-Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker has expressed interest in writing England's contribution to a future Eurovision.
This follows the surprise announcement from legendary sadsack Morrissey that he was interested in writing some music for England's representative in next years Eurovision. In 2006, the UK had an abysmal showing with Daz Sampson's ultra-cheesy 'Teenage Life' coming in at a pitiful 19 out of 24 entries. Now Cocker has thrown his hat in the ring for songwriting consideration. He stipulated to BBC's Five Live radio program that he wasn't out to tread on Morissey's toes if the sullen one gets the nod for 2007's entry. Cocker said, "I'm not going to compete with Mozzer if he's going to do it. I'm sure he'll write something good."
But he did say he's been interested in the European Festival of Camp Songwriting for quite some time. "The door is always open if they want to ask me," he continued, "I've always wanted to write one for them. Maybe I'll do it next year."
Considering Finland's 2006 win with hard rock monsters Lordi, it seems that now anything can happen at Eurovision.
