In this week’s chart wrap, a cult Yorkshire metalcore band trumps all the big stars.
It’s a stunning achievement, that UK metalcore flag-bearers Bring Me The Horizon managed to somehow beat out every pop, hip-hop and old-timer act to claim the top spot.
The band’s wordy third album, There Is A Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is A Heaven, Let’s Keep It A Secret, just pipped a tour-revitalised The Script for the number one position.
Their last album, 2008’s Suicide Season, debuted at number 28 on the ARIA charts.
NZ singer-songwriter Brooke Fraser’s third album Flags debuted at number three and Robbie Williams’ greatest hits reached six, but it was mostly the usual suspects making up the pointy end of the chart.
The next three debuts were all-Aussie, with You Am I’s self-titled album at number 18, the download-only iTunes Live: Live From Sydney session from Angus & Julia Stone at 26, and The Audreys’ Sometimes The Stars at 28.
Other debuts include Boyzone (34), Alter Bridge (35), Mirusia (45), Sufjan Stevens (61), Belle & Sebastian (74), Joe Satriani (84), Antony & The Johnsons (87), and Lil Wayne (91).
The biggest climb up the charts was for the soundtrack to Eat, Pray, Love, from 269 to 56, and the biggest drop was Jimmy Eat World’s Invented, from 21 to 62.
