Director Jim Jarmusch reveals that he’s working on a Stooges documentary.
The legendary filmmaker was interviewed by Pitchfork recently, and answered the 'what's next' question by saying he's going to produce a documentary on legendary Detroit punks The Stooges. He said, "It's going to take a few years. There's no rush on it, but it's something that Iggy asked me to do."
Sadly, he didn't expand on the ideas, but even the thought of it is tantalizing.
Jarmusch has long been associated with music counterculture, casting Tom Waits in 1986's Down By Law, Screaming Jay Hawkins and Joe Strummer in Mystery Train and Stooges frontmaniac Iggy Pop in 1995's Dead Man (with music by Neil Young).
He also got Wu-Tang Clan's RZA to soundtrack 1999's Ghost Dog and cast Iggy, Waits, The White Stripes, RZA and GZA in his 2003 compendium Coffee And Cigarettes.
Jarmusch also told Pitchfork that he's co-writing an opera.
"It won't be a traditional opera," he said, "but it'll be about the inventor Nikola Tesla, with the composer Phil Klein."
