Julien Temple's 'Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten' doco has been released in Australia.
The punk observer, who has covered the Sex Pistols in two documentaries, offers his musings on frontman for The Clash, Joe Strummer. 'The Future Is Unwritten' has been over thirty years in the making, Temple cataloguing archival footage, personal interviews, news, vintage photos, audio recordings and footage he shot himself since 1976.The documentary also features the observations on the enigmatic working class punk hero (who himself grew up decidedly middle class in London) from music and film's biggest stars, including Bono, Anthony Kiedis, John Cooper Clarke, John Cusack, Johnny Depp, Steve Buscemi, Matt Dillon, Jim Jarmusch and Don Letts.
It covers his beginnings in The Clash, his work with The Mescaleros and The 101ers, plus the post-Clash wilderness years where he toyed with work in film and helped Mick Jones with his Big Audio Dynamite project. Strummer died in 2002 from a heart defect.
'The Future Is Unwritten' debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2007 and was released in cinemas in Australia on September 20.
