Bob Dylan has cancelled shows in Asia after China refused to allow him to perform in Shanghai and Beijing.
Dylan was touring the region for Taiwan based promoters Brokers Brothers Herald. The plan was to include China, Taiwan and Hong Kong after the recent Japanese and Korean dates.
China’s Ministry of Culture refused permission for the Shanghai and Beijing shows but did not give a reason. However Jeffrey Wu blames the reason on tightened control for international artists in China after Bjork “hurt the feelings of the Chinese people” two years ago by chanting ‘Tibet! Tibet!”.
The next listed Dylan concert is May 29 in Athens, Greece. Dylan will tour Europe through until July 4.
Dylan’s most recent show was last Wednesday in Seoul, South Korea.
