Bob Dylan is forced to drop protest songs during his Chinese concerts and dodges activism.
Contact Music reports that the Cultural Ministry of China did not approve a proposed Dylan tour of China in 2010 because they had no control over what he would play.
His 2011 Chinese Tour was only approved if they could vet his setlist.
So the Chinese government has requested that he did not play protest songs like ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’ and ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’.
Dylan agreed and the shows have gone ahead, the folk icon receiving a standing ovation at his first show at the Worker’s Gymnasium in Beijing, playing ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ as an encore.
Dylan has also been pressured by activist groups to speak out against the incarceration of Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, according to The Australian.
