When Warner Music boss Edgar Bronfman's kids pirate music, he doesn't sue them into oblivion.
The organisation representing major labels, the Recording Industry Association of America, has no qualms about suing the pants off anyone caught illegally downloading, launching over 13,000 individual suits within the last three years, according to MTV. But when the jolly pirates are Warner Music Edgar Bronfman's own kids, they're more likely to get sent to their room without dinner.Bronfman sat down for an interview via the alternate world website Second Life. When asked by interviewer Adam Pasick whether any of his seven kids had used downloading programs like Gnutella and Limewire, he admitted that he had caught them doing it.
Bronfman said, "I explained to them what I believe is right, that the principle involved is that stealing music is stealing music. Frankly, right is right and wrong is wrong, particularly when a parent is talking to a child, a bright line around moral responsibility is very important. I can assure you they no longer do that."
But how were they punished? Did he try to sue them for the next ten years of allowance? No. "I think I'll keep that within the family," he said, chuckling.
