Strummerville, a charity set up for Joe Strummer after his death, has released a Christmas card to mark seven years since his death.
The card is a reprinting of Strummer’s last Christmas card that he painted and handed out to close friends and family and will be on sale today (December 22) at the Strummerville website. On top of that, there will also be an album showcasing new musical talent compiled of tracks from Strummerville’s Winter Sessions 2009, which will also be available from strummerville.com.
It was seven years ago today (December 22) that Strummer (born John Graham Mellor) died in his home in Somerset from an undiagnosed congenital heart defect. During his musical career he was a co-founder of The Clash, a one-time member of The Pogues and fronted Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.
After his death, Strummer’s wife Lucinda set up Strummerville, a charity designed to offer “rehearsal space and studio time to individuals, groups and organisations to enable the production of music by creative young people who would otherwise be preventing from doing so simply because they lack the necessary funds.”
If you want to organise an event to help Strummerville, or make a donation, head over to strummerville.com for more information.
