The English are revolting ... against Simon Cowell that it. The 1992 Rage Against The Machine classic `Killing In The Name` is the number one song in England beating the X-Factor winner because of a Facebook campaign.
Simon Cowell has dominated the number one spot on the singles chart in England for the past four years and real music fans had had enough.A Facebook campaign called ‘Rage Against The Machine for Christmas No. 1’ was put together by Jon and Tracy Morter in the UK and an incredible 960,312 members signed up.
The asked music fans in the UK to buy Rage’s ‘Killing In The Name’ in the same week of release of the X-Factor winner Joe Elderry released his Miley Cyrus cover ‘The Climb’.
By the end of the week, 50,000 more people bought the 1992 Rage Against The Machine song.
On the BBC Rage Against The Machine singer Zack de la Rocha said more about the spontaneous action taken by young people throughout the UK to topple this very sterile pop monopoly and less about the song and the band. We are very proud to have had the song chosen as the vehicle by which to do this."
The Morter’s campaign has raised over $100,000 for the charity Shelter and Rage Against The Machine will also donate all royalties from the sale of the song to charity as well. They have also agreed to perform a free show in Britain.
