Rage Against The Machine members Tom Morello and Zack de la Rocha appeared on the BBC this week to give their support to the campaign to stop Simon Cowell grabbing the number one spot in the UK this week with his X-Factor machine.
“I think it would be kind of a wonderful statement,” said Zack de la Rocha. “The kids all of the UK have responded to this incredible internet campaign and I think that it says something about the real tensions that people are experiencing all over the UK, and the United States as well. I think people would love to hear a song that reflects some of the tensions that they are experiencing in their daily lives. We are very excited about it”.“This has been a real grass roots campaign and I think it has tapped into the silent majority,” says Thom Morello. “The people in the UK are tired of being spoon fed one schmaltzy ballad after another and they want to take back their own charts. We are honoured that they have chosen our song to be the rebel factor to try and topple the X-Factor monopoly”.
The band then performed an unedited version of their 1992 classic, much to the shock of BBC programmers.
