Tom Morello says he will donate all of the proceeds from the Rage Against The Machine v X-Factor race to charity.
Rage Against The Machine ‘Killing In The Name’ was ahead of X-Factor winner Joe McElderry’s debut on the UK midweek chart following a Facebook campaign to Rage Against Simon Cowell.Cowell’s X-Factor winner dominates the UK chart at Christmas each year so a couple of Rage Against The Machine fans took matters into their own hands and started up a protest urging people to buy ‘Killing In The Name’ and stop the X-Factor song from hitting number one.
It is working and Rage’s Tom Morello is supporting the protest. “Rage's Killing in the Name & the X-Factor's goofy Christmas single are neck and neck for num one spot on UK chart. England! Now is your time,” he said in a Twitter post.
Morello says all money raised from sales of the song in the UK will go to Youth Music, a scheme to help young musicians in the UK.
The campaign is also raising money for the homeless charity Shelter.
The winner will be determined at the close of sales this week and known when the UK chart is published on Sunday.
