Susan Boyle has gazumped Eminem for the fastest selling album of the year after her `I Dreamed A Dream` shot past his `Relapse` in first week sales.
‘I Dreamed A Dream’ did just under 670,000 units according to Hits Daily Double. Up to its release, Eminem had the fastest selling album of the year when `Relapse` sold 608,000 units in week one.‘Relapse’ has sold 1.5 million in the USA so far but a deluxe edition with bonus tracks will be released on December 21.
Boyle’s success slaughtered other debuts this week from American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Shakira.
Lambert’s debut ‘For Your Entertainment’ sold less than a third of the Boyle sales. It did around 195,000.
Lady Gaga ‘The Fame Monster’ sold just over 181,000 while Rihanna did just over 180,000.
Shakira was a big disappointment, moving around 83,000 and debuting outside of the Top 10.
John Mayer also had a bad week, dropping out of the Top 10 after debuting at number one last week. The same thing happened to Mayer earlier this week in Australia.
Major releases by Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Mary J. Blige, Timbaland and 30 Seconds To Mars are still to come this year.
