Depeche Mode’s Martin L. Gore is an expert in alienation, according to a bizarre lawsuit from a World of Warcraft fan.
The lawsuit comes from Californian gamer Erik Estavillo, which claims that the hugely popular World of Warcraft is a "harmful virtual environment" with "sneaky and deceitful practices,” gaming site gamespot.com reports.Gore has been subpoenaed “since he himself has been known to be sad, lonely, and alienated, as can be seen in the songs he writes.” Seriously.
Estavillo is asking for $1 million in punitive damages and a court order to make Activision Blizzard get their act together.
According to The Guardian, Estavillo admits he "relies on videogames heavily for the little ongoing happiness he can achieve in this life".
Also named in the suit is actress Wynona Ryder, for her role in the film Catcher In The Rye for just being so awful. No, but really, she is subpoenaed because she knows how “alienation in the book can tie to alienation in real live [sic]/video games such as World of Warcraft.”
Usually I would make a snide remark about Estavillo here, but he’ll probably sue me, so lets just take it as read, shall we?
