While Daryl Somers remained uncommitted about the return on Hey Hey Its Saturday after the two recent specials this year, the Hey Hey Its Saturday Facebook page is confirming the show will be back for 2010.
The Hey Hey status was updated with “Looking forward to Hey Hey’s Return in 2010,” at around 10:35pm on Saturday night marking the first official mention of the show coming back.“Woo hoo” posted Wendy Uren, the first fan to see the message. “It was great to see a fantastic show come back to us,” write Tracy Evette Paul. “From the beginning, Hey Hey was very supportive of home-grown talent - it grew to a trend where Hey Hey was the first port of call not only for Australian artists but talent based all over the world,” commented Kirri Liepins.
When Hey Hey It’s Saturday returned for two specials in October it scored record ratings, despite one slight hic-up with an unfortunate Blackface sketch that offended visiting musician Harry Connick Jr.
The show also set a benchmark for variety on television forcing opposing networks to re-evaluate their programming. That led to the end of Rove on Network 10 last week.
There are no further details of when the show will return or whether it will be for one-off specials or a full season. Stay tuned.
