The St Kilda Festival has been confirmed to go ahead in 2011 after concerns over costs and funding.
Since it first started 30 years ago, the St Kilda Festival has become one of the largest free events for the community and a welcomed showcase for the Australian music industry.“After a year of review, the City of Port Phillip Council has given the go ahead for the St Kilda Festival for the next four years because of its cultural and artistic significance,” Port Phillip Councilor Serge Thomann tells Undercover News. “Celebrating St Kilda’s unique beach culture through music makes this such a extraordinary event - one of Australia’s greatest street and biggest community event”.
This year, 400,000 people attended the St Kilda Festival making it one of the largest community events in Australia.
The festival gives more than 100 artists the opportunity to showcase their music.
“The St Kilda Festival celebrated 30 years in 2010 and has been the platform that launched many bands over the years, more recently The Cat Empire,” Councilor Thomann said. “The 10 days event wants to fulfill its role as an incubator for young bands and artists. I am looking forward a great line up of acts on 13 February 2011.”
