Breezy multi-platinum saxophone prince Kenny G claims to get "romantic" on new album.
According to Billboard, the much reviled MOR saxophonist planned a "romantic" rather than "wishy washy" new album for Arista. Apparently BMG chairman Clive Davis came up with the revolutionary idea for the concept of his new album 'I'm In The Mood For Love... The Most Romantic Melodies Of All Time". Davis dissuaded G from doing an album of originals, citing recent mega-successful cover albums by Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow.Although he admits he almost exclusively listens to jazz in the hope of honing his chops, G's new album covers everything from all time mushy classics to the very contemporary James Blunt gusher 'You're Beautiful'. Other tracks include: 'It Had To Be You', 'The Way We Were', 'Yesterday', 'Fly Me To The Moon' and, of course, 'I'm In The Mood For Love'.
The curled-one admitted that the older songs were easier to work with than the new ones, saying, "It's instinctual to come up with an arrangement that is so classic. I treat them like Christmas songs." Oh yeah, what time of year is it again?
