Splendour in the Grass is going to remain at its new home of Woodford, Queensland for 2011 while the NSW Department of Planning reviews the festival’s proposal to move to the North Byron Parklands.
The Music Network report that a decision won’t be made until February, but in order to get the festival up and running by August they need to start preparing now.
Matt Morris, general manager of the North Byron Parklands site told TMN that the festival won’t be there “unless there’s a miracle and we get an early green light from the State Government and had fantastic weather for the build.”
The site was purchased by the festival organisers in 2006, but they haven’t been able to get the go ahead to use it for the festival since then.
In 2010, Splendour moved to the site of the Woodford Folk Festival in Southern Queensland. It had taken place in Byron Bay ever since its inception in 2001.
In the past they have had artists such as LCD Soundsystem, Powderfinger, Arctic Monkeys, Flaming Lips, Devo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Brian Wilson, Sonic Youth, Band of Horses and many many more.
