Oprah Winfrey will step down from her long-running `The Oprah Winfrey Show` on September 9, 2011.
The news of the decision to finish the show came via a spokesperson who said, "The sun will set on the Oprah Show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011." The words from Oprah’s mouth will be seen on the Friday edition of her show this week.In 2007 she told Larry King that she would not be renewing her contract so today’s news is no real surprise.
The finish date will mark the end of the 25th season of the show.
Oprah will say why she is leaving the show on Friday.
The show is currently broadcast on ABC across the United States but in recent years Oprah started her own cable network OWN as a joint venture with Discovery Communications.
The decision to leave the ABC network may be a ploy just to move the star to her own environment. The Oprah Winfrey Show is the longest running talk show ever, having produced 3,724 shows as of today over 22 seasons.
