Tom Waits` `Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards` will be re-released as a seven LP box set this December through Anti.
The three disc set was released in 2006 to critical acclaim and was a collection of previously unreleased, unheard, rare, new and even stuff you may have heard before spanning from 1973 up to 2006, or in Waits’ words:“Orphans are rough and tender tunes. Rhumbas about mermaids, shuffles about train wrecks, tarantellas about insects, madrigrals about drowning. Scared, mean, orphaned songs of rapture and melancholy. Songs that grew up hard. Songs of dubious origin rescued from cruel fate and now left wanting only to be cared for. Show that you are not afraid and take them home. They don't bite, they just need attention.”
The new vinyl release features several bonus tracks, including ‘Diamond In Your Mind’, a song Waits wrote for Solomon Burke on his album ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’ and a cover of Fats Waller’s ‘Crazy ‘Bout My Baby‘.
The complete set will consist of 62 tracks (two of which have never been released, and 30 of which had never been released until the CD version) on seven LPs pressed onto 180gm vinyl and a 12” booklet.
It will be available through Anti from December 8.
If anyone reading this is considering buying me a Christmas present, this would be much appreciated.
