Gary Rabin, one time manager of Ross Wilson and Mondo Rock as well as The Angels and The Poor died suddenly on the weekend in New Jersey.
57-year old Rabin was out shopping on Saturday when he collapsed in a store.Earlier this year, Gary had a stroke and had a history of heart problems.
Mondo Rock frontman Ross Wilson could not speak higher of the man. “He was a really good guy and always cracking jokes,” Ross tells Undercover.com.au.
Gary worked with Ross through the Mondo Rock era and also as a solo artist. “He was involved with myself and Mondo Rock and was my manager through the 90s until 2000,” Ross said. “We were really good friends. He was the Godfather to my daughter and best man at my wedding”.
Rabin decided to try his luck in America around 2000. “He always said “if I have to deal with idiots in the music industry I might as well deal with idiots with big cheque books,”” he said. “He didn’t need to work. He had an independent income but just loved the music business.”
Gary is survived by a brother and sister-in-law. “His nieces were his pride and joy,” Ross said. “He never married but always had plenty of lady friends. He was what they call a confirmed bachelor”.
Wilson performed last night at The Espy in St Kilda. Eric McCusker and James Black from Mondo Rock were also in the band last night. They dedicated the show to Gary Rabin.
