Cult legend Daniel Johnston is currently working on new material for an upcoming album release.
According to an interview with Clash Music, Johnston is working on a record called ‘The Death Of Satan’.“We’re very excited about that. It's my old group here in Texas and we’ve played together for a long time,” he told the website. “We’ve been together for like eight years, and this is our most professional release. I enjoy it very much I think people will like it a lot.”
Johnston is a fast worker. His last album was ‘Is And Always Was’, released earlier this year (2009).
Johnston released his first album in 1981 and has been consistently releasing new material since then. The 2006 film ‘The Devil and Daniel Johnston’ reveals his battle with schizophrenia and his climb from unknown artist to cult legend.
He has been idolised by artists such as Kurt Cobain and the 2004 album ‘The Late, Great Daniel Johnston’ saw artists such as Death Cab For Cutie, Beck, Tom Waits and The Flaming Lips cover his songs.
