Brian Wilson will complete at least two unfinished songs by iconic American composer George Gershwin.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Wilson has been authorised by the Gershwin Estate to finish two songs that he was working on at the time of his death in 1937.The project is for an album Wilson is recording of Gershwin classics that will be released sometime in 2010.
At the moment the songs are likely to remain instrumentals, but Wilson has not ruled out adding lyrics and turning them into his version of pop music, which earned him his own iconic status both as chief composer of the Beach Boys and as a solo artist.
Gershin’s legacy was enshrined in such showtime classics as ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ and ‘An American In Paris’ as well as the opera ‘Porgy and Bess.’ He often collaborated with his brother, Ira, who wrote lyrics for George’s music. A brain tumor got the better of him in Los Angeles in 1937 (at age 38) while he was working on a musical.
The album will be released through Walt Disney Records as part of a two album deal with Wilson.
