The rights have been secured to make a film of the life of Beach Boys icon Brian Wilson.
River Road Entertainment has announced that they have secured the rights to Brian Wilson and his wife, Melinda's life stories and will be producing a film on his life.
According to their release, Oren Moverman (The Messenger, Bob Dylan film I'm Not There) will be writing the screenplay while Bill Pohlad of River Road and John Wells Productions (E.R., The West Wing) will be producing and Jim Lefkowitz executive producing.
Wilson, along with writing so many of the hits of the Beach Boys, battled many demons during his life including addictions and mental illness which led to a mental breakdown while making the album Smile.
According to River Road, "The film will take an unconventional look at Wilson's unique musical process as well as his struggles with mental illness, and how he managed to persevere as an artist with the love and support of his wife Melinda."
In addition, Pohlad told the site 24 Frames "I have no interest in making a biopic. What's fascinating to me is to look at the different elements in his life, like that super-creative period when he was doing Pet Sounds and the later part when he was redeemed."
This project is separate from an upcoming film set in the surf culture of the 60's that is built around the music of the Beach Boys.
