Aussie singer and actor Toni Collette has won an Emmy for her TV series `United States of Tara`.
The award was a big win for Collette who beat out the favorite Tina Fey for the prize. Fey is the star of the comedy ’30 Rock’.Collette plays a housewife with a dissociative identity disorder in ‘United States of Tara’. In the show here alternate personalities emerge to portray a wild teenager, a drunken Vietnam vet and an old-fashioned housewife called Alice.
36-year old Sydney born Collette had her first role in 1990 in the TV series A Country Practice. She also starred in the hit Aussie movie ‘Muriel’s Wedding’ before becoming a major star in Hollywood with film such as ‘The Sixth Sense’, ‘Shaft’, About A Boy’ and ‘Little Miss Sunshine’.
Toni has also released the album ‘Beautiful Awkward Pictures’ and tours with her band ‘Toni Collette and the Finish.
